My blog in LA featured dining, friends, chefs, recipes, and basically my life in general. Having moved to NY over 3 years ago, I have been meaning to pick up where I left off with a similar blog in NY. But life got busy, and I needed to find my feet. Before you know it 3 years have flown by.
My interests are still the same – movies, hiking, art, food, dining, health and recipes. The best known chef in NYC is Mario Batali. Although there are many others in NY, Batali is a global phenomenon, with his red hair and orange clogs he is very noticeable driving around the West Village on his scooter. Arriving in NYC November 2012, he was the first celebrity spotting I made in this town. How serendipitous, as a chef myself out shopping in Citarella, I should run into him amongst the veggies.
Today I at in his restaurant La Sirena. The food was deliciously clean and fresh tasting. Unlike many NYC spaces this light filled, all glass dining area is spacious and bright. A great lunchtime dining experience.
In honor of an extremely hot and humid day, I will share my spanish gazpacho recipe:
2lb large tomatoes – peeled and chopped
1/2 English cucumber
4 green onions
3 garlic cloves
Handful of chopped basil
5 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons sherry vinegar
salt and pepper
1 red pepper diced
1/4 cucumber diced
Blend everything together. Chill until cold. Place into serving bowls and add the toppings.
Fresh, simple and delicious!!
